Studio Competition Philosophy
Revolution's Competition Team is open to all enthusiastic dancers eager to showcase their talents on stage. For many, competitions are the highlight of the dance year, offering a thrilling opportunity to perform and shine.
The primary purpose of our competition program is to cultivate leadership, self-confidence, and self-reliance in our dancers. Our goal is to foster a genuine passion for performing, emphasizing personal growth and artistic expression over the pursuit of awards. With the right focus, the experience gained through competition becomes a positive influence, enhancing dance skills and enriching all aspects of a dancer's life. Whether you are a recreational dancer or a former competition participant, we invite you to join our competition program. We believe everyone deserves the chance to experience the excitement and growth of participating in dance competitions. To ensure each dancer has a positive and rewarding experience, we group students by age, experience, and ability.
Competitions offer a fantastic opportunity for students to perform, gain confidence, and become more comfortable on stage. We participate in 3-4 competitions in Calgary and several out-of-town events each year, providing our dancers with diverse and enriching performance experiences.
Competition Team Commitment
Joining the Competition Team at Revolution Dance demands a higher level of commitment from both dancers and their parents compared to regular dance classes. This dedication ensures our team members are fully prepared to excel in a competitive environment.
Team members are expected to commit to the entire dance season, embracing the rigorous schedule and responsibilities that come with it. Attendance is crucial; competitive members must attend at least 90% of their classes to maintain their spot on the team. Personal holidays are not permitted after January 1st to ensure consistent preparation and performance. This commitment to attendance and dedication helps our dancers achieve their best and supports the entire team's success.
What Are My Class Requirements?
Depending on the team you are on, the class requirements vary. Our Dance Team members are required to train 1.5 hours to 8 hours a week. The classes consist of Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acro, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Contemporary.
What Type of Financial Commitment Does This Entail?
There are entry fees for each competition, that vary each year depending on the competitions we attend. Competition Team dancers are required to purchase new costumes Out of town competitions may require Hotel stays.
Will My Dancer Make The Team?
Yes! We find a spot for every dancer. All of our dancers are guaranteed to make the Competiton Team.
What Competitions Do You Attend?
Our Studio attends welcoming competitions where the focus is on encouraging young dancers.
When Do You Rehearse?
Our choreography is taught in class (no choreography fees except for Solos / Duets or extra Groups).
What Supplies Will I Need To Purchase?
As a team member you will need to purchase a Revolution Dance Team jacket and a competition makeup kit. You will also need all your regular dance attire for classes.

Open to all dancers in YYC aged 6-18, these sessions will assess technique, performance quality, and overall potential. Whether you're a current student or new to Revolution Dance, we welcome you to take part in this exciting event.
